University of Florida's Annual Design Symposium, 2010

Ligature is a weekend-long design symposium run entirely by the student organization voxGraphis, and features talks and workshops with highly recognized guest designers. The exhibition and accompanying event are intended to motivate, inspire and create a greater design awareness throughout our community. Not only are students inspired by our guests unique perspectives, but everyone from graduate students to underclassmen get a chance to work together and energize our design program. Debbie Millman

Debbie Millman has worked in the design business for over 25 years. She is President of the design division at Sterling Brands. She has been there for nearly 15 years and in that time she has worked on the redesign of global brands for Pepsi, Procter & Gamble, Campbell’s, Colgate, Nestle and Hasbro.

Debbie is President of the AIGA, the largest professional association for design. She is a contributing editor at Print Magazine, a design writer at FastCompany.com and Chair of the Masters in Branding Program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. In 2005, she began hosting the first weekly radio talk show about design on the Internet. The show is titled “Design Matters with Debbie Millman” and it is now featured on DesignObserver.com. She is the author of three books, "How To Think Like A Great Graphic Designer" (Allworth Press, 2007), “The Essential Principles of Graphic Design” (Rotovision, 2008) and “Look Both Ways: Illustrated Essays on the Intersection of Life and Design,” (HOW Books, 2009).

Emily CM Anderson

Emily CM Anderson studied at Minneapolis College of Art and Design and at the Academie voor beeldende kunst en vormgeving Arnhem, in the Netherlands. Presently she is living and working in NYC.

Her career has primarily focused on publishing concentrating on both magazine and book projects. She has worked for award winning magazines such as Dwell and American Craft. At American Craft she was involved in the redesign of the venerable publication giving the magazine a graphic language that matched the new editorial content.

She has designed books and publications including Brooklyn Modern for Rizzoli, Yale School of Architecture and the Annual Review for the VPRO a dutch broadcasting company. The VPRO was awarded De Bestverzorgde Jaarverslagen 2004 (Best Annual Report 2004) by Grafische Cultuur, Rotterdamn. Anderson was selected as an Art Directors Club Young Gun 6 in 2008 and in STEP magazine Field Guide to Emerging Talent 2006. She is currently working on her first book, titled 3D Typography with Jeanette Abbink, published by Mark Batty out in spring 2010.

Nikolay Saveliev

Nikolay Saveliev,was born in Leningrad, Russia and performs live in New York on a daily basis. Since graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design, Nikolay has worked freelance on brands as diverse as Dior Homme, Columbia University, and the Bank of Russia. He has also worked at various agencies including Syrup, Wolff Olins, and Landor, and Droga5.

Nikolay has been featured in various graphic design magazines and graphic design books, as well as mainstream publications such as Interview Magazine, Vogue, and The New York Times. He currently spends his time working from his studio in Manhattan, and is focusing on design and direction primarily for fashion, music, fine arts, and public service projects, as well as continuing a number of personal projects in off hours.
